Big Hearts Community Trust

Big Hearts Community Trust is the official charity partner of Heart of Midlothian Football Club in Edinburgh. As a registered charity, Big Hearts aims to support adults and children most at risk of poverty and social isolation.

As part of the “Hearts Family”, working closely with the club and the Foundation of Hearts, we use the social power of the game to improve outcomes of vulnerable groups across the community.

Strategy to 2021

Big Hearts is currently running an ambitious family-focused strategy across five areas of needs:

  • Supporting families in kinship care
  • Promoting positive mental health.
  • Build a thriving multicultural community
  • Improve outcomes of those living in poverty
  • Increase social opportunities for older people

Big Hearts Supporters

The first initiative of its kind in Scottish football, the ‘Big Hearts Supporters’ movement enables any Hearts fans to get involved with the charity of the club. Over 1,700 supporters have shown interest in volunteering with Big Hearts and their partner charities in Edinburgh. The volunteering programme seeks to use the time, skills and expertise of Big Hearts supporters to make a significant difference within our communities. Every year, Big Hearts supporters complete an average of 4,000 hours to support groups who need our help most.

Community Anchor

Big Hearts is the Scottish government designated ‘Community Anchor’ organisation for Gorgie-Dalry in Edinburgh. The charity is leading the Covid-19 recovery efforts, providing financial aid and practical support to small community-based organisations. In 2020, Big Hearts distributed 14 crisis grants to bring grassroots projects to life, on areas of health and wellbeing, digital access, life-long learning, or physical activities.
