CELTIC FC

Celtic Football Club is a professional football club based in Glasgow, Scotland, which plays in the Scottish Premiership. The club was founded in 1887 with the purpose of alleviating poverty in the immigrant Irish population in the East End of Glasgow. Celtic’s stadium is Celtic Park.

CELTIC FC FOUNDATION

Celtic FC Foundation continues to uphold and promote the charitable principles and heritage of Celtic Football Club. Our priority is to provide assistance to those who face daily challenges within our key priority areas – Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty (HELP).

The Foundation’s ethos is typified by a determination to create opportunities for society’s most vulnerable and marganlised groups- principally, the foundation addresses root causes of poverty by equipping individuals with the tools and means to reverse inequality Charity is fundamental to Celtic’s identity, and as the Club’s charitable arm, the foundation recognises the enormous importance and responsibility of honouring the legacy of our founding father, Brother Walfrid.

Geographically, the foundation and club immediately prioritise and conduct activities in the north and east of Glasgow. This subsequently extends to Greater Glasgow, Inverclyde and North Lanarkshire with Scotland, Ireland and the rest of the UK following thereafter. Celtic FC Foundation’s work also retains an International focus, emphasising Asia and Africa.

With around 30 live projects, the Foundation’s work encompasses a diverse variety of groups, with our work promoting employability, health and wellbeing, diversionary activities and disability sport initiatives.

PROJECTS OF CELTIC FC

Ability Counts 18+

Ability Counts 18+ is a pathway for young and mature adults to progress personal, social and employability skills.

Ability Counts Autism

The project helps to improve self-confidence and decision making skills. To encourage this, the Foundation has clear objectives for new participants with tailored sessions allowing them to easily settle into the routine of Ability Counts.

Ability Counts Down’s Syndrome

Ability Counts Down’s Syndrome is predicated on a simple model of inclusivity, companionship and most importantly, fun. The sessions allow participants a sense of freedom and allowing them to express their feelings in a relaxed, comfortable environment.

Breaking Barriers

Considered to be the most deprived region in London, Tower Hamlets’ residents are afflicted by entrenched socio-economic disadvantage, unemployment and health inequality, with the area having the lowest life expectancy of any London borough.

Throughout the year, Breaking Barriers offers a robust activity programme (taking place in the evening, holidays and weekends) encompassing sports and arts for young people between the ages of 13 & 19.

Employability

In recent years, Celtic’s Employability strand has made enormous strides; continuing to help those from the most challenging backgrounds while expanding outreach and targeting a variety of at-risk groups.

Among their flagship Employability projects, CashBack Gateway to Employment strongly embodies the Foundation’s ardent commitment to creating opportunities.

Football Fans in Training

Celtic FC Foundation’s Football Fans in Training gives Celtic fans the opportunity to attend lifestyle information workshops, educating participants on the importance of nutrition for health and vitality.

Gateway to Health & Opportunity

The comprehensive 10-week itinerary includes information workshops on nutrition and well-being, smoking cessation and money management, and crucially, a challenging curriculum of physical activity, encouraging healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Inspiring Sport

The project includes weekly activity sessions, school sports events, Parasports Festivals and the annual residential Summer Sports Camp. Activities include boccia, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, swimming, cross country running, football and dance.

Move and Learn

In partnership with the SPFL Trust and Ferrero, the Move and Learn project combines six weeks of practical sporting sessions with classroom workshops. This project encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

Multimedia Schools Project

Comprising practical seminars around filming and video editing, this project allowed young people to creatively explore new avenues of learning and thrive in challenging scenarios. Significantly, these measures were wide-spread across four schools and around 50 pupils, all of whom demonstrated improved levels of confidence, attentiveness and direction.

School of Football

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Football Association and CashBack for Communities, School of Football serves to enhance the development of young players by implementing diet and nutritional initiatives alongside practical football sessions.

Urban Stars

Alongside Clyde Gateway and West of Scotland Housing Association, Celtic FC Foundation’s Urban Stars project is an inclusive initiative that prioritises the development of children and young people in the community.
